Toyota: Powertrain Optimiser for Commercial Vehicle Sales

Powertrain Optimiser31 July 2026By Dynamon

Like many OEMs, Toyota offers a mixed set of powertrain options across its commercial vehicle range. Dynamon has supported Toyota sales teams and dealers to communicate the benefits of those options clearly — so customers can choose the right solution for their own use case, rather than defaulting to the diesel or petrol vehicles they have always run.

At a glance

  • Powertrain Optimiser — a Dynamon-built tool that analyses total cost of ownership across powertrain options for each customer’s vehicles and operations.
  • Right vehicle, not forced EV — recommendations favour electric or plug-in hybrid only where they deliver savings without compromising operability.
  • Company Car in Action — the tool was demonstrated live on the Toyota and Lexus stand, giving fleet customers a hands-on view of the analysis.

The challenge

Commercial customers are often unfamiliar with the day-to-day benefits of plug-in hybrid or electric vehicles when they have operated diesel or petrol fleets for years. Sales conversations need more than brochure claims: they need evidence tied to how that business actually runs.

The task for Dynamon was to give Toyota’s sales teams and dealers a practical way to collect customer vehicle and operations data, compare powertrain options on a like-for-like basis, and show which choice is optimum for cost — without pushing an electric vehicle when it is not appropriate.

The Powertrain Optimiser

Dynamon built the Toyota Powertrain Optimiser for this purpose. The tool gathers information on the customer’s vehicles and operations, then runs a detailed total cost of ownership analysis across the available powertrain options for that specific scenario.

The aim is straightforward: ensure customers get the best vehicle for their operation. Where battery electric or plug-in hybrid options can offer significant savings while remaining operable for the work the customer needs to do, the Powertrain Optimiser identifies that. Where they cannot, the recommendation reflects that too.

Comparing options for each vehicle

For each vehicle in the assessment, the tool sets out the cost and performance picture for competing powertrains — including purchase cost, energy or fuel, maintenance, residual value and incentives — so sales teams can walk customers through a clear, operation-specific comparison.

On the stand at Company Car in Action

The Powertrain Optimiser was on display on the Toyota and Lexus stand at Company Car in Action, where customers could experience the product and see how lower-emission options might benefit their businesses.

A longer partnership

This work sits within a long partnership between Dynamon and Toyota. Over many years Dynamon has supported Toyota’s customers as they transition to lower-emission vehicle solutions — whether the driver is sustainability targets, cost reduction, or both.

If you are an OEM looking to help dealers and sales teams recommend the right powertrain with operation-specific evidence, Dynamon can help.
